With Election Day approaching, two candidates running for Congress set aside their political differences to help Davis School District students better understand the political process.
Democrat Peter Crosby and Republican Congressman Blake Moore recently visited Layton High School to discuss how a bill becomes a law, how political campaigns work and how citizens can make a difference in their communities.
The discussion emphasized the importance of getting involved at the local level, challenging the status quo and having meaningful conversations with people who hold different perspectives. By hearing from leaders on both sides of the political aisle, students had an opportunity to learn about government beyond the classroom and gain a better understanding of how political decisions shape their communities and their future.
Layton High seniors said the discussion encouraged them to become more informed and engaged citizens, even if they are not yet old enough to vote. Students highlighted the importance of researching candidates, participating in elections and recognizing their ability to influence positive change. The visit reinforced the message that building a better future starts with understanding the issues, listening to different viewpoints and taking an active role in the democratic process.
