Farmington High School’s service club recently honored service and sacrifice during its Flags for Freedom Project as part of the Month of the Military Child.

“Freedom Flag Friday is to commemorate the history and progress that our nation has made,” said Hannah Plaizier, president of the Service Club. “I think it’s about uniting together to serve as well.”

Farmington High put up 250 flags to honor the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The flags were donated by the Major Brent Taylor Foundation, as part of their mission to honor leaders and inspire leadership.

This event was not only at Farmington High but also the schools that feed into Farmington, such as Centennial and Farmington junior high schools. The flags stood as a reminder of the unity we have in this community.

“It’s a neat opportunity to honor and celebrate the freedoms that we have, to come here and get a good education every day,” Plaizier said.

The Service club hopes its efforts will serve as a good reminder for the student body and to the community of the nation’s heritage.

“I think we as American citizens have an obligation to be good citizens,” Plaizier said, “and to not only remember the freedoms we have, but do our best to preserve them as well.”

While the Service club didn’t come up with the idea, it did provide about 30 volunteers to participate in the event.
