Oftentimes, whenever the letter Q appears, it is followed by the letter U.
Because of that unique pairing, Island View Elementary School educators created a truly unforgettable experience for their kindergartners by holding a playful “wedding” for letters Q and U to help students remember the sound they make together.
Principal Scott Richardson explained how fully the staff embraced the theme.
“We had a kindergarten teacher who came in her wedding dress, and her very kind husband came in a black T-shirt that had U on it,” Richardson said.
That teacher was Teisha Langford, who played the role of the bride.
The celebration began with Q and U walking down the aisle, followed by Principal Richardson reading the story of Princess Q and Prince U to reinforce the lesson.
To keep the fun going, the ceremony included a twist on the traditional “I do.”
Instead of reciting vows, “Everyone involved had to say ‘Quah,’” Richardson said. These quirky details highlighted the creativity and spirit that make Island View unique.
The festivities ended on a sweet note.
“And then the kids got wedding cake Zebra bars that we put little rings in,” Richardson added.
All five kindergarten teachers worked together to create a memorable learning moment for the 103 students. Not only will the children remember how Q and U work together, but they’ll also carry with them the joy of this imaginative celebration of learning.
