As part of Constitution Month, Stewart Elementary is proud to celebrate the principles of citizenship, service and civic responsibility, values deeply rooted in our nation’s founding.
To honor these ideals and the spirit of 9/11, students gathered for a special assembly to launch Service Week. This important tradition highlights the power of community and giving back.
Principal Michelle Yoho addressed the assembly: “Service Week is an important tradition that Stewart has incorporated over the years,” she said. “This year, we are doing a food drive in conjunction.”
Partners from the Centerville Police Department, the South Davis Metro Fire Department, and the Bountiful Food Pantry joined the school to reflect on the importance of unity, sacrifice and service.
“We’re here to remember the anniversary of 9/11 and all the sacrifices from that horrible event, and to hopefully teach the children and ourselves that we can make a difference,” said Fire Chief Jordan Hummel. “It doesn’t have to be something big. Small things have big impacts.”
The event marked the beginning of a week filled with opportunities for students to give back in meaningful ways.
During Constitution Month, we remember that the freedoms we enjoy come with responsibilities to our communities, our country and one another. Service Week is a way our students live out those responsibilities by serving others and honoring the sacrifices made to preserve our liberties.
Thank you to our incredible first responders and our servicemen and women. Your service reminds us of the strength, courage and unity that define our nation.
